This new technology from Sony, Barco, DLP offers a number of benefits to cinemas. For the unromantic it’s the increased on-screen light levels, greater colour saturation, operational lifespans of over 30k hours, sustained output of light quality and the lower power requirements. Enhanced projection capabilities for 3D and Imax uses are also another reason to invest in this technology.
All of these features will be positives for exhibitors, audiences too should notice the visible quality improvements. With cinemas competing against ever more sophisticated home entertainment solutions, anything that improves the shared experience of cinema is a positive for us all.
